FIELD: gas-and-oil producing industry.;SUBSTANCE: procedure for forming circular barrier in underground well consists in forming lengthwise slit in reinforcing material, in introducing reinforcing material into swelling packing material to make packing unit and in packing material swelling at its contact with well fluid. The procedure for making the well packer consists in forming a lengthwise slit in reinforcing material, in introduction of reinforcing material into swelling material of packing to make the packing unit and in further installation of the packing unit on the main pipe. The design of the swelling packer consists of the packing unit with swelling material and reinforcing material introduced into the former. Reinforcing material has the lengthwise slit along its whole length. Packing material has a cylinder shape and is arranged both outside and inside reinforcing material; packing material swells at contact with well fluid.;EFFECT: increased rigidity of packing unit, processability of assembly, avoiding fabrication and storage of unique designs of packers for each different configuration of main pipe.;25 cl, 7 dwg
