The method involves arranging a material layer i.e. synthetic fibre fabric, over an embroidery base i.e. natural fibre fabric, and controlling a relative movement between a cutting device and the material layer by a program of an embroidery machine. A plane material piece of the desired shape is cut from the material layer, where the cutting takes place via a heatable tip (47). An intermediate layer e.g. foil, is inserted between the embroidery base and the material layer, where the intermediate layer is dissolvable in a solvent. An independent claim is also included for a device for applying a plane material piece on an embroidery base.
