The furnace i.e. continuous furnace (201), has two heated chamber regions (202, 203), which are arranged together. A workpiece is transported using the chamber regions by a transport device and a workpiece carrier (104). The workpiece carrier is temporarily coupled to the transport device. A transport direction (208) of the workpiece carrier runs in one of the chamber regions opposite to a transport direction of another workpiece carrier in another one of the chamber regions. An input region (204) and an output region (205) of the furnace are directly arranged together. An independent claim is also included for a method for heating a workpiece in a furnace.
