Fractured component i.e. cracked piston rod, testing method, involves optically measuring geometric offset of fracture surfaces along direction of surface normal to both sides of fracture points

The method involves detecting whether geometric offset exists between fracture surfaces at fracture points (10, 12) of a fractured component i.e. cracked piston rod (2). The geometric offset of the fracture surfaces is optically measured along a direction of a surface normal to the fracture points and both sides of the fracture points. A digital camera is attached at the fracture points. Edges of the surfaces are digitally photographed, and characteristics of the edges are determined from a photograph. An independent claim is also included for a testing device for testing a fractured component.
