The method involves computing adiabatic flame temperature within a region of a burning injection jet in a motor control device based on a combustion chamber temperature and an adjusted oxygen rate in the combustion chamber. Nitrogen oxide emission in the chamber is determined by a transfer function of relationship between specific nitrogen oxide emission and the adiabatic flame temperature at a lambda value of 1, where the transfer function is provided into the control device. Operating parameters of a diesel engine are adjusted by the determined nitrogen oxide emissions.
