The profile i.e. longitudinal carrier (10), has molded shells (12, 14) provided with lateral connection flanges (12a, 12b, 14a, 14b), where the molded shells fix a peripheral contour of a vehicle self-supporting body. The connection flanges run along a peripheral side of the profile and are joined under upper and lower overlapping joints (16). One of the connection flanges joined under the joints is formed as a wall section directly lining a hollow cross-section of the profile. A reinforcing strip is inserted into the hollow cross section, and the molded shells are formed as half shells.
