The instrument has a suction and/or flushing channel (2) connected to a pump (5) e.g. roller pump. A manually operated control device controls suction/rinsing performance in the suction and/or flushing channel, where power of the pump is controlled by the control device. The control device is designed as a hand-lever (6), and manual actuation of the control device is detected by a sensor or a potentiometer. Proportionality of coupling of a position of the adjusting device to performance of the pump is individually adjustable.
