The method involves determining a position of an implant (10) in a medical system using a navigation system (18) depending on a position marker (16). A position of a projection axis (22) in the medical system is determined from the implant position. An X-ray apparatus (2) is placed such that an imaging axis (20) of the apparatus is aligned with the projection axis. A relative position of the projection axis with respect to the implant is selected depending on projection information stored in the implant. Direction information is indicated on an output device to an operator. An independent claim is also included for a medical device with an electromagnetically operated navigation system.
