The method involves scanning a detection area of the periphery with a scanning beam (111A), and detecting a radiation. The intensity of the radiation of the scanning beam is detected as a function of the displacement. The threshold is provided for the amplitude of the intensity curve and is cohesive to the disturbance of the display requirements, if the provided threshold value exceeds over a predetermined displacement interval. An independent claim is also included for a device for periphery recognition with a lidar sensor.
