The method involves receiving input signals by an input interface, where the input signals restore a reference position of a coupling unit of an optical scanner (4) or illuminating laser beam (2) and detection radiations (7), and the coupling unit is moved for deflecting the beam. Driving signals for the scanner are generated depending on the input signal using a scanner parameter for moving the beam and the radiations, where the parameter reproduces a driving property of the scanner, and the driving signals are transmitted to the scanner. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device for an optical scanner (2) a laser scanning microscope or laser manipulator with an optical scanner (3) a computer program for controlling an optical scanner (4) a data storage medium for storing a computer program.
