The method involves assigning two measured variables to a liquid (7) i.e. water, in a container (4), where one of the variables is volume of the liquid guided into the container and another variable is a filling level of the liquid in the container. The container is filled with the liquid until the former variable reaches a reference value. An actual value is determined for the latter variable and is compared with the reference value. An inclined position of a liquid-carrying household appliance is determined from deviation of the actual value from the reference value. An independent claim is also included for a liquid-carrying household appliance comprising a filling unit.
