The invention relates to an energy management system for a vehicle (1) with a combined electric and muscle power drive with an electric motor (2) for driving the vehicle (1) and an energy store (3) for supplying the electric motor (2) with electrical energy, which has an input unit (20) for inputting a quantity representing the planned route, a control unit (6) for determining a power requirement depending on a state of charge of the energy store (3) and a total energy requirement determined for driving on the planned route, and an output unit (22) for outputting the determined performance requirement for the driver. The power requirement represents the target power to be provided by a driver of the vehicle (1) using muscle power to drive the planned route.
