The motor has a housing including a center piece (1), and recesses provided at a side of a bearing shield (2) turned towards the center piece. The center piece has permanent recesses i.e. cooling channels (7), which open out in one of the recesses of the bearing shield. A recess is provided at a side of another bearing shield (6) turned towards the center piece, and the cooling channels are opened out in the recess of the latter bearing shield. An inlet (4) is connected with the recess at the former shield for allowing and transferring a coolant e.g. water, to the recess of the former shield. An independent claim is also included for a method for cooling an electric motor.
