The device has a locking mechanism (1) with a locking element e.g. ratchet wheel (5), pivotably connected with a component i.e. armrest, and provided with ratchet teeth (7). Another locking element e.g. pawl (6), of the mechanism is provided with locking teeth (8) and pivoted and held in a locking position by a spring element e.g. spiral spring. The spring element exhibits compressive force, which causes swiveling of the former locking element in a pre-position corresponding to the locking position by engagement of an auxiliary tooth (12) into the former locking element.
