The method involves displaying a display pattern on a display device, where the pattern has usage data in obscured form. The display pattern is superimposed with an analog filter pattern (4a) such that the usage data are detectable. A filter element (3) with the filter pattern is separated from a card-shaped separation substrate (1) and is applied on the display device. The display pattern is generated based on the usage data and the filter pattern. A portable data carrier is separated from the substrate, and is formed as a mobile communication card in a telecommunications terminal of a user. An independent claim is also included for a card-shaped separation substrate comprising a filter element.
