The device has a movement-executing component e.g. tool (2), laser or water jet, and a counter component i.e. workpiece (1), executing a counter-movement for producing a geometrically defined web e.g. circular web, such that a sum of counter movements and a sum of web speeds of the two components result in a desired web and desired process speed. The components are parts of two partial drive systems (S1, S2), where the drive systems are controllable by a common controller. The counter component is clamped on a table (3). An independent claim is also included for a method for producing webs.
