The boiler (1) has a combustion chamber (2) comprising a heat insulating primary air inlet (6) designed such that a heat insulated ember zone (5) is formed during combustion of fuel. A passive mixer device (4) i.e. expansion hopper, mixes combustion gases generated in the combustion chamber with secondary air from a secondary air inlet (7), where the combustion gases mixed with the secondary air are burnt in a post-combustion chamber (3). The mixer device is comprised of a ceramic material from a mixture of carbon and silicon carbide.
