The method involves storing multiple modes in a control device (3) for controlling a power transmission device (1). A selection unit (5) is provided for selecting one of the modes. Values are adjusted for control of the transmission device and/or an adjustable chassis (2) of the selected mode during an operation of a motor vehicle. Signals are received by the control device from a situation detector, navigation device, radio station and driving style detector for detecting an actual driving condition. The adaptation of the values is carried out based on the signals of the situation detector.
