The roof (10) has a longitudinal support (12) which extends between a front cross beam (24) and a rear cross beam (26) in a central area (20) of the roof. The longitudinal support runs in edge area (22) of corresponding door openings (16,18) of left or right side doors of the passenger car, which is laterally recessed from the roof. The longitudinal support is formed as one-piece cast unit.
