The method involves reading a number of measuring variables, and evaluating a relative turn-on time for actuators (1-3). The actuators are powered by voltage sources (4) and controlled by the evaluated turn-on time. A charge state of one of the voltage sources is determined by partially evaluating and measuring specific values (23-25) of the actuators. The charge state is compared with predetermined limit parameters (20-22). The relative turn-on time of one of the actuators that is assigned to one of the voltage sources is changed and regulated during exceeding of the limit parameters. The limit parameters are threshold values of the actuators or a voltage supply of the actuators or components to be protected. An independent claim is also included for a control device for implementing a method for protecting an indicating device in a motor vehicle.
