The method involves starting areas from an actuating position (11) and detecting the areas by a sensor device. A driver action is introduced by a driver of a motor vehicle (10). The motor vehicle is formed such that view of the driver of the motor vehicle is detected by a parking device to park the motor vehicle in the actuating position. Arrangement of the actuating position is detected by the sensor device relative to the vehicle. The contours of the actuating position are instaneously detected by the sensor device. The vehicle is guided to the actuating position by the parking device. An independent claim is also included for a parking device comprising a sensor device.
