The system has a signature card (12) provided as an authentication unit of a personalizing unit (10), where the signature card has a digital certificate for authenticating application of a personalization software installed in the personalizing unit. The certificate comprises serial numbers of a card printer (11), in order to allow interaction between the card printer and the personalization software. The card printer comprises a coding module, which utilizes encryption codes for coding, where the codes are decoded and processed by the certificate of the signature card. An independent claim is also included for a method for personalizing a smart card using a personalizing system.
