The method involves determining object speeds (Vo1, Vo2) of objects (O1, O2) located in front of a vehicle (1) and object distance (a) to one of the objects directly located in front of the vehicle. Vehicle speed (v1) is set to a value during exceedance of minimum distance (am) to the object, where the value lies above the object speeds and is less than or equal to predetermined maximum speed. Speed difference between the vehicle speed and the object speeds is reduced with increasing proximity to the objects before reaching the minimum distance.
