The method involves exposing a surface (5) of a workpiece to laser radiations (3) of a laser radiation source (2) such that micro structural changes are produced in the workpiece, where the workpiece is made of metal i.e. steel. The surface exposed to the laser radiations is removed till the surface is not optically differentiatable from a surrounding area of the surface with naked eye. A volume area (7) having the micro structural changes is maintained in the workpiece, and an oxide layer (6) produced in the surface by the laser radiations is removed by a polishing process.
