Surfaces machining method for workpiece i.e. crankshaft, involves moving cutting plates along path for squaring workpiece surface, and squaring workpiece surface using three cutting plates
The method involves moving three cutting plates (3a-3c) along a path from a starting position for grooving in an axial direction at a workpiece surface i.e. circular front surface (1), to a desired position, where the plates lie next to each other at a distance. The plates are moved along another path for squaring the workpiece surface till to a radial desired position, where the latter path lies transverse to the former path. The workpiece surface is squared by the cutting plates for removing the material at the workpiece surface during movement of cutting plates along the latter path. An independent claim is also included for a cutting insert comprising a recess.
