The method involves controlling an actuator (2) by an assigned circuit, which is provided with an integrated circuit (IC) (3). A larger current is taken up by the IC than a maximally permissible working current of the IC in case of a blockade of the actuator. The actuator is switched off and switched on in case of the blockade by a temperature raise protection of the IC. Threshold values are specified for switching off and on the actuator according to operating conditions of a control drive (1), where a temperature hysteresis between switching off and on amounts to 30 degree Celsius.
