The means for detecting glass corrosion, comprises a carrier having glass surface, and a coating applied on the carrier, where the coating consists of an indicator for the glass corrosion. The indicator is a substance such as bromothymol blue or phenolphthaline that indicates a variation of the pH value to a higher pH value on the glass surface of the carrier. The indicator has a color change at a pH value of greater than 7. The coating is based on silicon dioxide. The coating is a porous coating such as a porous silicon dioxide coating made of silica sol. The means for detecting glass corrosion, comprises a carrier having glass surface, and a coating applied on the carrier, where the coating consists of an indicator for the glass corrosion. The indicator is a substance such as bromothymol blue or phenolphthaline that indicates a variation of the pH value to a higher pH value on the glass surface of the carrier. The indicator has a color change at a pH value of greater than 7. The coating is based on silicon dioxide. The coating is a porous coating such as a porous silicon dioxide coating made of silica sol. The carrier has glass compositions different from glass and/or the carrier has coating with different indicator, where the indicator has pH-dependent color change regions. Independent claims are included for (1) a system for monitoring glass corrosion; (2) a process for the production of means for detecting glass corrosion; and (3) a method for the determination of glass corrosion.
