The chain (1) has outer chain members (2) and inner chain members (3) connected with each other via a chain joint. Outer straps (6) and a middle strap (7) i.e. toothed strap, of the outer chain members exhibit a large strap opening with relative large opening dimension for loose fitting of the outer straps and the middle strap with one of chain bolts (4, 5), and small strap opening with relative small opening dimension for fixed fitting of the outer- and middle strap with the other bolts. The small strap openings of the middle strap and outer straps are arranged on respective bolts. An independent claim is also included for a method for joining an outer chain member of a plate-link chain.
