Method for determining closing timing of valve of internal combustion engine of motor vehicle, involves determining whether valve is closed or opened based on criterion of exceedance of amplitudes of acoustic waves to threshold value
The method involves determining a time window within which closing of a valve of an internal combustion engine (6) is expected, and detecting vibrations released by a valve. A determination is made to find whether the valve is closed or opened within the time window based on a criterion of exceedance of amplitudes of detected acoustic waves by a vibration sensor (1) to a predetermined threshold value, where the vibration sensor is attached at the engine. The acoustic waves detected by the vibration sensor are strengthened and filtered based on frequencies. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating an internal combustion engine.
