The method involves determining the time needed for the nozzle needle (24) of a fuel injection valve to move from an open position to a closed position. The control time required for the control drive of a switching valve (10) based on the determined needle closing time. The control drive operates the switching valve linked on one end to a control chamber (30) in the fuel injection valve. The control time may also be dependent on both determined and reference needle closing times or difference of both. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a fuel injection valve with a control chamber.
