The device has an electronic communication device (6) integrated in an intermediate element (7) i.e. intermediate adapter, in a region of connection of a controller and a tool. A line element is integrated with the communication device, and the intermediate element is arranged between the line element and the controller. A socket (5') corresponding with the line element and a plug (4') corresponding with a tool or controller are connected with each other. A recess (9) for accommodating the communication device is arranged in one of the parts. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing an intermediate element (2) a method for repairing a defective connection between a controller and a tool.
