The method for processing sheet metal components, in which a first component (1) is welded with a second component (2) by means of a thermal bonding process, comprises forming a joining support (4) spaced from its edge with a lateral surface (5) on the first component that projects partially over the component surface of the first component, and connecting or welding the second component on the lateral surface of the joining support and/or a component surface section adjacent on the side of the lateral surface on the joining support of the first component. The method for processing sheet metal components, in which a first component (1) is welded with a second component (2) by means of a thermal bonding process, comprises forming a joining support (4) spaced from its edge with a lateral surface (5) on the first component that projects partially over the component surface of the first component, and connecting or welding the second component on the lateral surface of the joining support and/or a component surface section adjacent on the side of the lateral surface on the joining support of the first component. The components are aligned to each other so that the second component partially adjoins at the lateral surface of the joining support and/or at the adjacent component surface section. The joining support is formed from the first component in such a way that a section of the lateral surface and a section of a surface of the second component are aligned over the surface sections spaced away from one another and aligned to each other in positive fit manner when the components are aligned to each other for connection. The joining support is formed under production of a separation plane, and the lateral surface of the joining support is partially formed by the separation plane. A surface portion (8) from which joining support is formed, is separated along a side of an adjacent component section for forming the joining support and from which the component level is formed so that a separate longitudinal rib serves as the joining support, whose separated lateral surface serves as alignment, construction and/or connection surface for the second component. The joining support is formed by means of a welding-/forming tool on a welding-/forming press in a cutting stroke on the first component. A trough is formed in the first component during the formation of the joining support and the components are connected and/or welded to each other from the sides of the formed trough. The joining support is formed from the first component in such a way that when the components are connected to each other. The lateral surface projects over the assigned section of the second component partially over the lateral surface of the joining support. The joining support is formed from the first component so that the lateral surface of the joining support projects maximally around its height over the component surface. The second component is completely connected with a section of the lateral surface of the joining support. The joining support is connected on the side of the lateral surface with an another section of the first component under partial sealing of a separating cut produced during shaping of the joining support along the lateral surface on the first component.
