The dryer (1) has a laundry receiving chamber (2) accessible by a filling opening (3). A closure device (4) opens and locks the opening as needed. A process air flow (7) intersperses the chamber during an operation of the dryer. A sensor (10) partially projects into the air flow. A cleaning device (15) cleans the sensor from contamination separated from the air flow. The cleaning device is coupled with the closure device such that a cleaning of the sensor is carried out when opening and/or locking the opening. The cleaning device has a brush-like cleaning unit (16) contacting with the sensor.
