The converter has a cathode (1) and an anode (2) provided in thermal contact with a heating element (4) and lying in a plane. The cathode and the anode are separated from the heating element by an electrical insulator (3). A magnetic induction vector is aligned parallel to the cathode and anode planes and perpendicular to a flow direction from the cathode to the anode. A plate or a film forms a contact with upper surfaces of the cathode, the anode and centre electrodes and is made of materials with low electrical conductivity e.g. semiconductor or semi-metal materials.
