The method for producing patterns in carpet floor covering (2), which partially consist of thermally plasticized fiber material, comprises thermally treating the upper side of the carpet floor coverings by means of a laser device (3), arranging the laser device over the carpet floor covering, directing a laser beam on the upper side of the carpet floor covering with the laser device, and changing the carpet top material through the resulting heat effect of the laser beam and the displacement movement of the laser device for the purpose of carpet pattern formation through plasticization. The method for producing patterns in carpet floor covering (2), which partially consist of thermally plasticized fiber material, comprises thermally treating the upper side of the carpet floor coverings by means of a laser device (3), arranging the laser device over the carpet floor covering, directing a laser beam on the upper side of the carpet floor covering with the laser device, and changing the carpet top material through the resulting heat effect of the laser beam and the displacement movement of the laser device for the purpose of carpet pattern formation through plasticization. The thermal surface treatment of the carpet floor covering is carried out with the laser device, which is controlled by a programmable electronic control unit (11) in order to produce determined carpet patterns. The carpet floor covering is moved forward during the thermal surface treatment on the carpet production line. An independent claim is included for a device for producing patterns in carpet floor coverings.
