The method involves evaluating light beams (L1-Ln) separated from each other, and transmitting the light beams within cycles. A reduced number of light beams is transmitted and received after detection of interruption of the light beams in a partial cycle. The light beams are evaluated and not received based on the interruption in the cycles. An object determination signal is emitted when the light beams in the cycles are interrupted in the partial cycle. The cycles are directly discontinued after the interruption of the light beams.
