The method for hardening a component (10), comprises hardening the component by laser beam or electron beam locally in a hardening area (12) in dependent upon a process parameter and adjusting the process parameter in dependent upon a determined load parameter of the component in operation variably in the hardness edge. A speed by which the energy beam is guided over the hardening area is adjusted as process parameter. A cooling of the component is adjusted by a cooling medium as process parameter and heating of the component is adjusted by a further energy source as process parameter. The method for hardening a component (10), comprises hardening the component by laser beam or electron beam locally in a hardening area (12) in dependent upon a process parameter and adjusting the process parameter in dependent upon a determined load parameter of the component in operation variably in the hardness edge. A speed by which the energy beam is guided over the hardening area is adjusted as process parameter. A cooling of the component is adjusted by a cooling medium as process parameter and an additional heating of the component is adjusted by a further energy source as process parameter. An energy level of the energy beam is adjusted as process parameter. The load parameter of the component is determined by a computer support stimulation and/or by an effort and/or by a calculation. A variable hardness value is produced in the hardening region and a variable hardening depth is produced in the hardening region. Tempering zones are produced in the hardening region. An independent claim is included for a component.
