The device has two print mark push-buttons (12, 14) detecting processing marks provided on a paper web (2) and arranged upstream to a cross cutting station (18) at respective distances. A position generator detects a position of cutters of the station. The station cuts the web into sections successively lying in a transport direction (A). The cutters are adjusted by a drive motor such that a position of the sections of the web is changed in the direction based on adjustment of the cutters. A control unit additionally controls the motor based on detection of the marks and the position. An independent claim is also included for a method for cross cutting a flat material web in a system for a paper processing industry.
