The method involves selecting an engine operating point at which an engine is operated at maximum system pressure and less load. The operating point is changed in a shear mode by breaking injection and interrupting a pump supply for a high pressure part by a demand-control. A delivery volume is conveyed into the high pressure part during increase of system pressure until opening of a pressure relief valve. Pressure values measured by a high pressure sensor are adjusted with an opening pressure value of the pressure relief valve in a control device. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing measurement capability of a high pressure sensor in a high pressure part of an injection system.
