The engine has a gas permeable layer, a piston and surfaces that are subjected with gaseous fuel and designed for gases and liquids. The surfaces are cooled by gases flowing from outside into a space subjected with the fuel. The gases are selected from a group consisting of carbon dioxide, cleaned ambient air and exhaust gas. A piston ring is provided between the upper and the lower piston rings in the cylindrical piston and serves as an air skirt for air cushion between a cylinder wall and the piston. Channels extend into a wall for distributing the gases in the wall. The gas permeable layer is made of an open-porous metal or ceramic foam, an open-porous carbon foam, a metal or ceramic(s) meshwork, an open-porous sintered material, metals or ceramics provided with laser holes, of perlite rock, pyrogenic silicic acid.
