The appliance has an electronic controller for controlling a consumer of the appliance, and a configuration interface (K) for configuration of the appliance and adjusting power input maximum of the appliance. The controller adapts a program sequence for the consumer to multiple external conductors (L1-L3) that are attached to the appliance. The external conductors are determined in an automatic manner or by an input at the configuration interface, where the power input maximum for the external conductors are variable between three current levels. The consumer is designed as a top heat radiator, a bottom heat radiator or a recirculating air heater. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance.
