The method involves damping pressure pulsations in a high pressure pipe that is guided from a high pressure accumulator to an injector over a rail throttle of an internal combustion engine. Control duration of the injector is determined by an engine control device based on a parameter that characterizes pressure drop in the rail throttle. The pressure drop in the rail throttle is determined before initial operation of a common-rail-injection system, where the injector is controlled by the engine control device. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining control duration of an injector of a common-rail-injection system of an internal combustion engine.
