The system has a drawing chain (2) guided into a chain rail (1) and comprising idler rollers (3), where a cleaning element is arranged between the two idler rollers and lies with two opposite friction surfaces at bearing surfaces of the chain rail. The cleaning element cleans and/or lubricates the bearing surfaces when the drawing chain is drawn. The cleaning element is designed as a felt cuboid (8) that is soaked with oil or cleaning agent. The friction surfaces of the felt cuboid are aligned parallel to fiber direction of a felt, and the cleaning element is made of absorbent material. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning and/or lubricating a chain rail of a chain drawing system of a rotary web printing press.
