The method involves flowing a coolant from a cooling circuit (3) of a combustion engine (1) to a heat exchanger unit (6) via pumps (13, 19) before a start of the combustion engine. The pumps are controlled dependent on temperature. The heat exchanger unit comprises a heat exchanger (8) and a fan (9), which is switched onto an air circulation mode before the start of the combustion engine when the coolant is conducted from the pumps to the heat exchanger unit and/or to the heat exchanger.
