The method involves defining one or more interpretation boundary conditions for a contour of a control cam (10). An interpretation target value is defined for the contour. An object function i.e. quality function, including the interpretation target value is defined for a particle swarm optimization algorithm. Values are determined for parameters of each of particles using the optimization algorithm such that an optimized target value of the object function is obtained based on interpretation boundary condition.
