The device (1) has an electrical machine (3) e.g. electrical generator, mechanically coupled with a rotor (2) for selective production of electrical energy from rotation energy of the rotor. A control device (6) controls the electrical generator and detects driving condition e.g. braking mode and/or coasting mode, of a motor vehicle. The control device controls operation of the electrical generator in case of detection of the driving condition of the motor vehicle such that the electrical generator produces energy from the rotation energy of the rotor. An independent claim is also included for a method for energy recuperation in a motor vehicle.
