Coating material comprises titanium oxide, preferably titanium(IV) oxide, which is provided or alloyed with at least an additive that is silver compounds, preferably oxygen-containing silver compounds, preferably silver(I) oxide and silver carbonate, or chromium oxide, preferably chromium(III) oxide, where the titanium oxide has a mass fraction of at least 96.5% and in the case of several additives, the totality of these additives has a mass fraction of at least 0.068%, preferably at least 0.075%, in the coating material. Independent claims are included for: (1) a coating system for a substrate, preferably for a glass or glass substitute produced monolithic substrate or composite substrate, preferably low-emittance coating system, comprising at least one coating produced from the coating material; (2) the substrate, preferably glass or glass substitute produced monolithic substrate or composite substrate, comprising the coating system on at least one surface of the substrate; and (3) producing a coated substrate, preferably the glass or glass substitute produced monolithic substrate or composite substrate, comprising applying at least one coating of the coating material to the substrate or to a coating located on the substrate or to a coating system located on the substrate, by physical vapor deposition, preferably sputtering.
