The method involves transmitting the light generated by light source (20) to the light receiver (22) via an optical cable (6). The intensity (It) of light received in the light receiver is measured. The optical cable is comprised of an optical fiber which is surrounded by a cladding. An intersection portion arranged between optical fiber and cladding, is filled with a fluid medium (28) whose refraction index is smaller than the refraction index of optical fiber and refraction index of cladding. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) fiber-optic hydrophone for measuring sound pressure distribution in liquid; and (2) lithotripter.
