Absorbent, where the absorbent is an aqueous solution, comprises 5-65 wt.% of 2-(2-aminoethoxy)ethanol, 0.001-20 wt.% of an activator comprising 2-aminoethanol and/or piperazine, and 0-20 wt.% of an additive comprising sucrose and/or magnesium carbonate. An independent claim is included for deacidifying a fluid stream containing the acid gases as impurities, comprising (a) contacting the fluid stream with the absorbent in at least one absorption step, where the absorbent loaded with acid gases and a purified fluid stream are formed, and (b) separating the fluid stream purified by acid gases and absorbent loaded with acid gases from one another.
