Determining the fertility of sperm, comprises labeling the sperm with at least one fluorescent dye, recording the fluorescence microscopic images with the exposure time adjusted to the speed of movement of sperm, and analyzing the fluorescence microscopic images with an image editing program for the number, length and/or shape of the resulting light paths, which is assigned to the motile sperm, and associating the points of light to the immotile sperm. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above mentioned method, comprising a slide unit (1), and at least one flow chamber (2), which has hose gauges (3) on both sides, where the height of the flow chamber is 20-30 mu m.
